Exercising is good for you, but sometimes you can injure yourself when you do so. There are often limitations preventing us from reaching our ultimate performance, for example; weakness, lack of mobility or flexibility

and biomechanical or muscle imbalances.

Sports injuries often result from accidents, poor training technique, inadequate equipment, and overuse of a particular body part. Most injuries can be treated by applying relative rest, physiotherapy and the principles of rehabilitation. However once an injury has occurred, early diagnosis is important. The role of your physiotherapist is to provide treatment and rehabilitation of your injury and also to provide support for performance through prevention, maintenance and rehabilitation to reduce and correct an existing disability.

Your physiotherapist can also complete preseason assessments to limit the risks of injury. Preseason screenings consist of testing the mobility and stability of joints, and testing the strength and power of muscles. Functional movement screening is an assessment used to evaluate movement patterns and asymmetries, which can provide insight into mechanical restrictions and potential risk for injury.
